3 Obsessions You Should Burn With
“For though I am free from all, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win more of them.” 1 Corinthians 9:19 (ESV)
Everyone is obsessed with something. Everyone has something they think or talk about way too much. There are a lot of bad obsessions, but today I want to give you 3 that are good and extremely powerful in our quest to be like Christ.
Serve Others - Serving others is not some cliche thing we aspire to one day in the distant future. It is a tangible action to humble yourself and get a little lower than those around you. Letting someone else have the coveted parking space, opening a door a little longer for an elderly lady, or volunteering to do the job no one else wants to do are all examples. There are a million ways you can choose to serve each day. This does not come naturally!
Add Value - As you go about your life, do you add value to the world or take away? Things like gossip and negativity take away from the world around you. You were made to add value to the world. This means adding value to people! Be generous with your praise. Be lavish with your love. Be the person who goes the extra mile when no one is expecting it. Add value to everything you touch. Jesus made things better wherever He went. We should follow His example!
Build the Kingdom- You should wake up every day and ask the Lord, How can I build Your Kingdom today? It does not have to be a crusade with a million people in Africa to be significant. Love an unloved person. Share your faith with a coworker. Give resources to a ministry that touches lives. Every day it should be your mission to build the Kingdom of God. The alternative is to build your personal kingdom. This will never be fulfilling or rewarding.
Takeaway: Obsession has great power. It unleashes great creativity. It makes things that seem impossible come into the realm of possibility and eventually reality. Serving others, adding value, and building the Kingdom are things that you will never do consistently just because you think it is a good idea or you are supposed to. You have to allow the desire to grow inside until it becomes a fountain of action!
