The seed and the sower: discipleship in motion across Kenya

In the rural villages of Kenya, something powerful is happening – not through celebrity preachers or massive events, but through quiet obedience to a timeless call.

Jesus said in Matthew 28:19, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…” It’s a command that continues to echo across continents and cultures – and in Kenya, it’s bearing fruit through everyday believers who are sowing seeds of faith.

And that’s the key: sowing.

We are reminded of a deep spiritual truth in 2 Corinthians 9:10:

“Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness.”

The seed is what you give out of what God has given to you. It’s the manifestation of His grace in your life. You could give of your time. You could give of your finances. You could offer your prayers. You could share the gospel. But whatever you sow comes from Him. God is the supplier.

Our job is to sow generously, not to hoard it or wait for perfect conditions.

In Kenya, church planters are doing exactly that. They’re not waiting for buildings or budgets.

They’re gathering under trees, teaching Scripture after long days in the field, and discipling their neighbors in living rooms and marketplaces.

And what’s happening? Multiplication.

One small church gives rise to another. One transformed life leads to another. A local leader pours into a disciple who will soon become a leader themselves. It’s not just addition – it’s exponential growth, just as Jesus described in Mark 4:8:

“Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, some multiplying thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times.”

This is the heart of Surge’s mission in Kenya. It’s about empowering local leaders who already know the language, culture, and pain of their communities. These men and women are the sowers, scattering seeds of the gospel into soil prepared by the Spirit.

And the harvest? It’s not measured in numbers alone. It’s measured in forgiveness extended, families reconciled, addictions broken, and generations changed by the love of Christ.

But the sowing must continue. There are still villages waiting. Still hearts unturned. Still leaders ready to go – if only someone will help provide the seed.

So please pray for these church planters. Share their stories. Trust that what you sow in faithfulness, God will multiply.

Because when disciples are made, nations are changed.
