Case Study: Sierra Leone
Discover Surge’s impact in the nation of Sierra Leone
Get to Know our sending leaders.
In April of 2023, our team headed to Sierra Leone to capture the stories of two Surge Sending Leaders. Watch these two videos to get to know their stories of how they got involved with Surge and became passionate for church planting.
Peter Kainwo
In Bo, Sierra Leone, Peter Kainwo heads a team of leaders who proliferate church planting in this western African nation's eastern and northern remote regions. Since he was young, he has felt a unique call to plant churches in his home nation. Believing that the best way to evangelize to the unreached parts of the world is through church planting, Peter is determined to reach the furthest of villages in Sierra Leone, even if it means walking long distances or borrowing a boat to cross a river. His determination to see the people of Sierra Leone come to know Jesus drives him to do whatever it takes to train and send church planters.
Francis Conteh
In the capital of Sierra Leone, Francis Conteh leads a network of churches that find themselves in places often neglected and forgotten. Freetown’s slums are often the last place church planters end up planting a church, but Francis is on a mission to change that. He believes that the church of Jesus is unique in reaching the poor and those who are victims of injustice. He faces challenges with local authorities and neighboring Muslim leadership in his urban context. But despite the pressure, Francis is determined to see churches planted all over the city of Freetown and beyond.
